Shangri-La: Exploring Tibetan Culture in Yunnan, China

Welcome to the Tibetan Paradise of Shangri-la. This little piece of Tibet, high up in the mountains of Yunnan, China, and at the beginning of the Tibetan Plateau, is supposedly the place the book Lost Horizons was based upon. We decided to travel here to investigate this unique place, and to try and find out what is happening in Shangri La and what it is really like. Shangri La, in south west China, is populated mainly by ethnic Tibetan people. This is one of the only places outside of Tibet itself, but still in China, that you can travel to as a foreigner for free, and feel the real culture of the 'Roof of the World'. But unlike traveling to Tibet itself, you can travel to Shangri-la without the need for a special permit or visa. Join us!
